Nice article on the Catholic vote. I get on to my fellow Catholics sometimes for supporting Pro-choice canidates. Yeah I've heard of the whole seamless garmet position. But it loses credibility to me when its only used against pro-life republicans. Anyway, I think there are alot of Catholics who aren't to thrilled that Kerry could be the Second most powerful Catholic in the world and their votes might put him there.

Hawai'i Poll: Bush, Kerry in dead heat - The Honolulu Advertiser - Hawaii's Newspaper
This is great news. Maybe Cheney can head out there for a rally. It will probally be hard to get Bush out there this late in the game. If Bush is doing this well in Hawaii(a reliable democratic blue state) that must indicate trouble elsewhere. The Republican party there has mad3e some great gains though. Its beyond me why we should consider Hawaii to alway be democratic. If there people from Hawaii visting stop by and give us in wisdom in the comments.

Power Line: O'Donnell Goes Over the Waterfall

Power Line: O'Donnell Goes Over the Waterfall
Thanks to Powerline for this article. Everyone is talking about another weird rant by O'Donnell on MSNBC. Powerline has a link to the video. Its beyond me why Dems are getting so hostile and parinoid out there, The big implication of this years race is the picking of up to three new justices on the Supreme Court. All picked in the past by republicans by the way. But as I stated before history shows that in second terms Presidents generally are not as popular or powerful. Look at both Reagan's and Clinton's second terms. In both their respective terms, their accomplishments were mostly in their first term. With the one exception of how Reagan got the Russians to blink at the Iceland summit. After the 2006 midterms the focus will not be so much on Bush but the respective infighting in both parties and the power struggle there. Perhaps what the Dem's hate is that republican control will not be wrestled away with ease. IMHO, Bush has two years after reelection to get what policy initatives through. After that, it becomes so much more difficult. So why the extreme rhetoric from the other side? Comment?

Thousands of new-voter cards in Ohio undeliverable

Thousands of new-voter cards in Ohio undeliverableAt some point the MSM must start reflecting some moral outrage over whats happening. Every time I see one of these headlines I think of Denzil Washington playing Malcholm X(great movie by the way) when he issued that famous line "BY All Means Necessary"

EIB Interview: Democrat Mayor of Youngstown, Ohio for Bush

EIB Interview: Democrat Mayor of Youngstown, Ohio for Bush
What is interesting about the transcript that I linked, is the that the Democratic mayor Of Youngstown Ohio states that this will be Kerry's 5th trip to this county. This an county ,according to the Mayor, votes 60% to 70% for the Democrats. Hum. Even though I have concerns about Ohio ,it does show it's important to see where the candidates are traveling in assessing where their campaign stands. If there are so many swing voters in Ohio why isn't Kerry spending more times in those regions? Or like withother traditional Democratic groups, is he having problems with his own base mainly labor in the rust belt.

2theadvocate.com: News - Vitter: $1 bills sent to backers to get attention 10/20/04

2theadvocate.com: News - Vitter: $1 bills sent to backers to get attention 10/20/04
Interesting article about how the Republican canidate is sending out one dollar bills to people in fundraising letters and then asking for $100, $200, $300 donations. The theory is that this will get people attention and donations will increase. Hum, We will see. But the important part of this article is a little bit down the page relating to Kennedy. Again more evidence of the campaign incomptence of the Democractic party's favorite Rep. Chris John. The last major elections we had increasingly show that the NorthWestern part of the State is critical to pick up for a win. The three endorsements that are mentioned should have been in the bag for John months ago. Instead Kennedy picks up 3 major endorsements. The first from District Attorney Paul Carmouche, big Democratic but with cross over appeal(my former boss by the way). Besides Rep Glover's endorsement which is big , the biggest is State senator Jackson's endorsement. This is huge and will have ramifications as to Kennedy's vote in the black community in the Shreveport area. Jackson is a shrewd poiltician and in my opinion was responsible for savings Democratic Sen. Landrieu's bacon from the fire in a barnstormer of a race two years ago. More analysis on the Senate race later.

Bush outstrips Kerry in poll of La. voters(Also La Senate Numbers)

Bush outstrips Kerry in poll of La. voters
Surprise! Despite the earlier rumblings of the Kerry campaign about Louisiana being a swing state, Bush is trouncing him. The real interesting numbers are the Senate Race Numbers. For all those unfamilar with the latest political rumblings down here in Bayou Country, Democratic Senator John Breaux is retiring. Four persons are running for the seat.We have a open primary system ,that's all the rage currently in California(Arnold endorsed the proprosition according to Boifromtroi) to which makes for very fun politics but for which many of us wish would be done away with. If you get 50% plus one you win. If not, the top two vote getters regardless of parties go on to the runoff. U.S. Rep. Vitter the Republican is in the lead by 43% according to this poll. On the Democratic side, U.S. Rep John(Democratic party's personal favorite) has 18% while State Treasurer Kennedy has 10%. The key question is can Vitter get over the 50% mark and avoid an runoff. Hmm. I think he has a chance but would be surprised if he managed to do it. Now imagine this fun scenario, the electoral college is tied 269 to 269 the Repubs hold the house but the senate is split after Nov 2. THe house would choose the President. Bush wins. Guess who chooses the Vice- President- Its the new Senate. So if there is an runnoff in December Louisiana has the potential to decide if there will be Bush /Cheney administration or a Bush/Edwards adminstration. Wow, history could repeat itself. It would be Jefferson/Burr administration of 1801 all over again.

Good piece on the Bush campaign condition right now. Bush supporters really need to calm down or there going to work themselves into a heart attack before this election is over. Bjrn Strk blog - Enough with the US election
I can't help but be empathatic with the blogger's comments about the US Election and the play they get in Norway. As some one who lived near the border of two other states I got tired of hearing about elections I couldn't vote in. However, the European media has alot of the blame here because they either spoof Bush as a yahoo cowboy, or to the other extreme a power hungry zealot. Good read though on bias toward Bush and the media role in portraying politics there. Comment section is interesting also.

Outside View: Pundit buffoonery - (United Press International) A sane article concerning"The Divided America Myth"

Outside View: Pundit buffoonery - (United Press International)
Its important sometimes to take a deep breath and step back from rethoric of the campaign. I am constantly hearing how divided the country is becasue of Bush. The Kerry campaign harps on about divided America all day it seems. You would think a revolution is in the realm of possibilty. The writer here makes a good point. For many of us in flyover country this election is nothing in passions compared to what happens at your local school board meetings. Plus, chances are that the people who have to face their heated constituents at these local govt gatherings are in fact these peoples very neighbors. What are the chances these conservative or liberal pundits are at their local school board, city hall, or county supervisor meetings. Probally not much since they're on tv 5 nights out of 7. The issues raised at these meetings raise the ire of average people more than embryonic stem cell research. Whats the result? After a great fight we keep saying hi to our political opponents at the grocery store, still work together in church, and still all party together at each other houses on saturday night. In other words, flyover country is adult enough to disagree with each other and still work together. So let the discussion begin.

Greetings to all my fellow Blogexplosion Readers

If your reading this chances are you just joined Blogexplosion. Also if your reading this I am sure that many of you are counting down that 30 seconds and are thinking "Oh My Gawd another political blog". Let me say first welcome. These page's content should improve dramatically this week after I learn a few more basics regarding that damn template. I'm a lawyer not a computer guy. In fact, cut and paste was a major milestone for me. By the way for those new to blogger did you think that the help section generally sucked? Oh well, this site is about politics, news, and current events. I have a life beyond that though and will have a seperate blog talking about the other things that interest me like work, LSU football(geaux tigers), and observations about life in general. The best thing about blog explosion is the number of really great sites outside politics I have visited. By the way before surfing all thse sites I never knew knitting was such a big thing. I mean I knew people knitted but didn't realize how many people knitted and blogged about it. Live and learn another sub group out there I wasn't aware of being in existance. Anyway browse around and don't be afraid to introduce yourself in the comment section. Chances are you might be linked at my other site where poiltics is not the main focus. Oh well my 30 seconds are up.

Telegraph | Opinion | I bet the Guardian editor 50 Pounds he's wrong

Telegraph | Opinion | I bet the Guardian editor 50 Pounds he's wrong
Great opinion piece in the London Telegraph this morning by Steyn discussing the Guardians attempt to persuade American voters to vote for Kerry. For the money quote ,by a local election official, go the end. I am of two minds on the Guardians true intentions here. The Guardian is a pretty liberal paper and I am sure the writers there would love to see ole King George packing, On the other hand they're not idiots. They must know that this would invoke some resentment and this effort could backfire on Kerry. Why do it? Marketing! Your not hearing the Independent , the Financial Times, or the LondonTimes on every ones lips. A British paper trying to make it an impact and swing the election to Kerry. Great Headlines. Certaintly the anti Guardian campaign that many bloggers have started produces even more print. Maybe I am being cynical of the folks at the Guardian but my gut tells me its all not about the purest of intentions.

Morning Post Bush Still Looking Soild

The Horserace Blog
Posting must be light this morning, so I am going to be lazy and refer you to another good post by the Horsesrace Blog. Basically, Jay looks again at where the candidates have been, where they are today, and where they are going to determine the status of the race. The round up is that Kerry will be in Ohio but in weak to moderate counties that should counted in the blue column. He also points out that Edwards was in Maryland this week. That does strike me as illuminating. For a Vice-Presidential canidate to go to Maryland at this point is like Cheney going to Mississippi . Bush will be in St Petersburg today an area that went for Gore as well as the city where the city paper gave their endorsement to Kerry this week. Then off to swing area/ base areas of of Florida where Bush won by about 8% in that congressional district. Bush then this week goes to areas of Minnesota ,Wisconsin and to areas of Iowa where Gore won by healthy margins. A the end of the week The POTUS ends in the heavy democratic area of Phillly. What amazes me is that Ohio doesn't appear to be on the list. Jay is aware of at leat no travel plans or where Kerry will be at past Wednesday.
As someone who has worked in campaigns, you can bet this movement is not being dictated by the polls that we the great unwashed see but by the campaign internal polls. They are generally more accurate in my experience. The fact that Bush is not doing a stop over in Ohio this week still worrys me but you can't be in all places at one time. What also strikes me if true is the lack of an schedule for Kerry past public Wednesday. Again Jay might not have been able to find that out. But if this is the case it strikes me as pretty incompetent for the Kerry campaign. Big events don't go off well just by themselves. The organizing of volunteers, logisitcs, and getting a crowd there take time. We have already seen that some of their events have gone badly probally for lack of organization. Anyway sorry about the my more than horrible grammer this morning. but work calls.

HoustonChronicle.com - Former first couple cast votes for son

HoustonChronicle.com - Former first couple cast votes for son
I know this was an item from yesterday but I didnt see alot of coverage on it. I will be blunt I love George and Barbara Bush. Maybe it was because he was the first President I voted for in an election. Many people forget the political courage it took for the elder Bush to repel the invaders out of Kuwait. Like his son, he was willing to risk everything even the office he long wanted to do the right thing. Remember this was the war that Kerry voted against and Gore traded his yes vote for more speaking time in front of the cameras. But mostly, both of them represented class and honor something that was so lacking after they left. Both Bushes share something in common. Both men put the country first ahead of themselves or their political ambitions.

Well,l I am not a big fan of this ''early voting" but at least it might get some of the kinks out of the system before the real election day. Hopefully, Jeb is on top of this situation. Gay Marriage Issue Motivates Conservatives
Its amazing that with those highly paid political talking heads on the cable shows thay never talk about the impact of the gay marriage or anti gay marriage initatives on the race. According tio the ap its on the ballot in 11 states including Arkansas, Ohio, Michigan, and Oregon. Again, troublesome issue for the Kerry campaign especially in Ohio. Shreveport Times Picks Kennedy for Senate

Elect Kennedy to U.S. Senate
This is an important endorsement I believe for Kennedy. No one expected that the Times would endorse the Republican. The person it hurts is Breaux heir apparent Chris John. Again it fuels the perception that the Kennedy campaign is the one that has the momentum on the Democratic side.

Wow, the Louisiana senate race is heating up. Rep John and Kennedy are now going after each other on civil rights. I have to admits it nice to have just one Republican in the race instead of the usual 4 or 5. Usually it's us that start eating our young. As I stated before, I am pretty astonished that the inept campaign John has run. Perhaps he is waiting for the runoff to spend money and get out there and really campaign. However with Vitter at 47% according to the latest poll, John might not have the opportunity. Oh well he got Sister Sen. Landrieu endorsement, how come I don't think thats going to help.
